Project 1C

Urban Room
The Miner’s Chronicle : A Kinta Memory Archive

The overarching aim of the project is to revive and celebrate the cultural heritage of Ipoh’s tin mining era while creating a vibrant and inclusive space for the descendants of tin miners and the wider community to gather, connect, and engage with their shared history. This is achieved by integrating cultural, educational, and social functions within the building to ensure long-term relevance and sustainability.

Reflection
This is my very first attempt at Urban Studio. It was fairly tough during the semester as this semester was also occupied with other heavy courses. It was critical to have time management skills. As for the studio, it is located in Pudu, which I believe I have been more than three times this semester and even stayed overnight at the location for my own observation and experience, or to enjoy life in Pudu. The process and development are difficult, especially during the design thinking stage, which left me fatigued at first. Every feedback I've gotten has been reasonable, and it has undoubtedly resulted in significant improvements for me and more opportunities for development. Overall, it was an interesting work, even though I experienced depression and anxiety along the process, but I was able to control it and persevere until the end. This semester 5 is the most tough so far, and I hope to persevere until the end of it. Thank you to everyone who has supported and comforted me.
