PROJECT 1
Contextual Study Sketch Journal of a Traditional Street
We had to physically visit the street that was specified for this project, and I chose the Malacca area's Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock. Following the site visit, we will need to compile a sketch journal based on the tangible and intangible elements that are presented on the selected street.
SELF REFLECTION
With the use of a site visit, I was able to understand how the physical and intangible components of Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock relate to one another as well as the problems that I discovered were still present on the street. Additionally, I developed my ability to express my observations and thoughts through drawing.
PROJECT 2
Poster and Seminar-Contemporary Issues in Asian Architecture
In group of 7, we were requires to choose a significant issue based on a traditional street. Our group is focus on redefining place identity of Lorong Panggung. As we found out he recent loss of Lorong panggung's identity has been directly attributed to modernization and development. Examples include the use of modern urban architecture restoration techniques and an increase in tourism, which have seriously harmed the originality and authenticity of the location in terms of their culture, economy, and life style.
SELF REFLECTION
With a better awareness of our local setting and the problems encountered, this initiative has helped us understand Lorong Panggung even more. We also suggest some alternatives for redefining Lorong Panggung's place identity in order to address the problem we identified.
