SEMESTER 2

ASSIGNMENT 1

Case Study - Assessing Daylight & Thermal Comfort at Modern Houses

We had to physically visit the double storey-terrace house (corner unit) that we chose for this project as a group of seven people. We chose our groupmate's house as the location for the case study. Following the site visit, we will need to create two A2 boards based on the concerns with daylighting and thermal comfort that we discovered in the chosen area, as well as potential good design interventions to address the issues.

PROJECT 2

Artificial Lighting Design Layout : Lumen Method

As a group of seven persons, we did not need to physically visit the library that we chose for our project. For the case study, we chose our Peckham Library in London, United Kingdom. Following our online research and understanding of the principles of artificial lighting design, we will need to develop two A2 boards based on the analysis of the floor plan and proposed additional types of lighting that are suitable for the chosen space using the Lumen Method Calculation.

SELF REFLECTION

It is difficult to regulate and communicate in a group of seven people because there are so many people together. On the other side, we solved it in a way that everyone approved of and felt comfortable with. As a result of this module, I now have a better and more in-depth understanding of the interaction between architecture and the environment. I appreciated both projects because they challenged us to think in new ways by analysing and applying the principles we learned in class. In a word, this subject has increased my awareness of architectural concerns and contemporary environmental difficulties.
