TROPICAL WILDLIFE DISCOVERY UNIT

Designing with Architectural Principles + Materiality + Context + User

We are required to construct a Tropical Wildlife Discovery Unit at Bukit Jalil Recreational Park for the final task. An Observation Unit is defined as "a structure at the edge or centre of a tropical forest for the purpose of observing its' wildlife." The unit must be appropriate for the immediate tropical site context. In order to create a memorable spatial experience for the user, we must demonstrate our design intention through the application of architectural principles, materiality, and constructability. Throughout the project, we will do site visits and various workshops.

SOLITUDE

SOLITUDE, a space that blends into the steep slope, yet stand out as a discovery space that resembles a mountain and encompasses variety of activities.

Two different privacy requirement of structure work well independently as they using the same language of line & rhythm, and providing different experience that is captures upon the journey on a hill to the users.

The vast view and shadow casted by the timber panels provides the user to experience the essence of journeying floras & fauna. Reinforcing the ideology of one with nature and immersing oneself to be homogeneous to the nature itself.

REFLECTION

After completing this project, I gained a more thorough understanding of how to design a simple building type that fits user requirements while considering site context and integrating both internal and external elements. Furthermore, this project has taught me a lot about site analysis, site-specific design, and user-specific design. Despite I got covid at the end of finalising the model and drawings, I still finished everything on time. This project has been a lot of fun for me, and I've learned a lot from Ms Patma. She constantly provides helpful feedback and ensures that all students are on the right track.
