TROPICAL RAINFOREST DISCOVERY PLATFORM

Designing with Architectural Principles + Materiality

We learned to analyze and diagram architectural principles in the previous assignment. We now need to apply the architectural principle from the previous assignment to investigate our conceptual and operational operations in order to create a major gesture of architectural space. We were asked to investigate the potential meanings and implications of this architectural principle in terms of generating forms and crafting spaces.

CLIFF FALL

Tropical rainforest are regions with strong winds, high rainfall exceeding 1800mm to 2500mm, and temperatures ranging between 20 degree celcius - 29 degree celcius. They consist of various settings, such as the emrgent layer forest floor, mountains regions, and more.

Our site is situated by the mesmerizing fresh waterfall with a lush canopy beside it, home to species like King Ferns Orchids, Orang Utan, and Tree Kagaroos. Giving an exquisite experience as users arrive on a platform that is attached to a steep cliff and experience the opposing contents in an asymmetrical sense.

PRESENTATION BOARD

User start by venturing down on a lift inside the cliff, tiny openings allow them to glimpse outside from a dark space they transit to a bright corridor, greeted by fresh air coming from the metal grates below, and move towards the core. Then they proceed to the left decking to interact with the cooking and thunderous waterfall.

Back to the core, a staircase leads users down to the lower platform linking to a decking on the right which protrudes into the canopy of trees. If looked closely, they could spot some wabdering animal among the branches.

REFLECTION

After finishing this project, I had a better understanding of how to build structure with the interaction of site context. My teammates and I have explored many different types of sites, and we communicate well. We will discuss any issues that arise. We never hide from one other since that is how we solve problems and encourage one another. We have many discussions throughout the process and will respect each other's ideas. Our tutor, Ms. Alina, also offers us with helpful feedback and assures that we are on the proper route. Everything went perfectly during the process.
